Kyle set his backpack down after school yesterday, to go talk to a teacher. When he came back the bag and its contents (science project work, textbooks and a Nintendo DS Lite with two games) were gone and everyone pleaded ignorance as to its whereabouts. Drama ensued.
Received a phone call a little while ago from St. Darlene, the middle school receptionist who told me that when Kyle came in today to get his ADHD medication he told her that his backpack had been found – another boy was holding on to it for him. We assume all the contents were there based on what she said was his very cheery attitude.
Then she relayed to me one of the things that mothers love to hear, more than just about anything in the world (aside, I suppose, from hearing your lottery numbers called on Saturday night). She said that when he came in the room, he asked her if she was alright, that she didn’t seem to be her normally perky self. She told him she was a little down today, but she’d be fine and thanked him for asking about her. He gave her a hug and went on with his day.
Nobody else in the school, faculty, staff or student had noticed her demeanor that day, but 12 year old Kyle had, and made an effort to let her know it. We agreed what an amazing boy he is, and I immediately decided to sit down and start this blog so that he and his sisters will someday be able to look back at day to day life, tears, laughter and all my fanatical rantings.
